What type of therapy do you offer? At Hope we specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). CBT was introduced in the 1960s and had been evolving ever since into one of the most effective and empirically proven types of therapy for a range of mental health conditions. We also integrate mindfulness techniques into our sessions to help you manage your wellbeing.
-
What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. We will help you to identify factors which are causing and maintaining your condition and work together with you to change these patterns by teaching you the concepts, tools, and methods which you can use to understand and improve the way you feel. Unlike some other types of therapy, CBT deals mostly with your current presentation and recovery, rather than significantly focusing on issues from your past. We may also explore other areas such as your values, beliefs, and boundaries to help support your wellbeing.
-
Do I lay on a sofa while you ask questions? In short, no. CBT therapy is a type of talking therapy which is very much about the working partnership between us. CBT requires participation from you, and you'll also be asked to complete some tasks outside of your sessions.
-
Will you ask lots of questions? In your first session you will be asked questions so that we can assess what is going on for you and determine the best course of action together. We'll also take time to carefully explain how CBT works and what you can expect to ensure you are comfortable with the process.
-
I'm worried what you'll think of meThis is a concern shared by many when beginning therapy. It is really important to know that under no circumstances will you be judged for anything you share. We always approach people in a non-judgemental and empathetic manner.
-
Where does therapy take place? In the main session will take place online. This means you can undergo therapy in a place of your choice. Sometimes we may continue our online treatment outside or in other locations if required. If you would prefer session to be face to face this can also be accommodated in and around the Milton Keynes / Northampton area.
-
How many sessions of CBT are needed? One of the great things about CBT is how effective it can be with just a few sessions. Most people begin to see improvements from just 8-10 sessions. The exact number of sessions will depend on a number of factors but typically CBT will last between 8 and 20 sessions.
-
How long does each CBT session last?CBT sessions are 50 minutes long and typically take place once a week, although we may agree to space them out to every two weeks or more as you progress. The exception is your first session which will last between 1.5 and 2 hours to allow us time to discuss exactly what you are experiencing to ensure CBT is the best route for you.
-
How much does CBT cost?CBT sessions can range in price. We are committed to ensuring CBT can be accessible to all. A 50 minute session with Hope Wellness Therapies costs £35.
-
Are therapy sessions confidential?Yes. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Hope Wellness Therapies is registered with the Information Commission's Office (registration number ZB726755), further information can be found in our privacy policy. Please be assured that if we review your case any information discussed is completely anonymised, and only the most essential elements are discussed. 2. If it is considered that you may harm yourself, someone else, or a criminal act is disclosed you may be asked to make a disclosure outside of the session. This is a very rare occurrence and good counsellors will always discuss this with you in advance, encouraging you to make the disclosure yourself.
